<\/b>Center for Sustainable Development of Matrouh Resources<\/span><\/b><\/h3><\/div>\n\n

Center for Sustainable Development of Matrouh Resources is considered the largest and the most important pioneering project in the field of integrated development in the areas of rain-fed agriculture. Its area exceeds 15,000 km2<\/sup> along the Egyptian Northwestern coast, from Fouqua at Ras Al-Hikma in the east to Salloum in the west.<\/p>\n

The objectives of Center for Sustainable Development of Matrouh Resources:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Improving the livelihood and preserving natural resources from deterioration.<\/li>\n
  2. Achieving water security by increasing the stock of rainwater and using it for human, and animal drinking and in agriculture, especially in areas of rainfall, by constructing wells and encouraging citizens to maintain the means of rainwater harvesting.<\/li>\n
  3. Maximizing the efficiency of rainwater use in cultivated and arable lands by constructing stone, mud and concrete dams to reduce surface runoff and water loss to the sea and to reduce soil erosion.<\/li>\n
  4. Introducing and disseminating rational methods for using water to expand the areas of cultivated vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, and to produce seedlings locally.<\/li>\n
  5. Encouraging the local community to participate in improving the state of vegetation cover and improved management of rangelands in order to provide fodder resources for livestock and to protect the environment from desertification.<\/li>\n
  6. Helping citizens by planning and developing valleys in order to add new areas of land with arable soils.<\/li>\n
  7. Producing and disseminating modern techniques suitable for rain-fed farming systems to maximize the profit from agricultural production.<\/li>\n
  8. Activating agricultural industrialization and marketing processes to achieve added value from desert agricultural production.<\/li>\n
  9. Training and enhancing Bedouin skills in other fields than agriculture to increase their income.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
