Desert Research center participates in the 10th IUCN Regional Conservation Forum for West Asia Successfully Concludes in Riyadh

Under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, Desert Research Center participates in the The 10th IUCN Regional Conservation Forum (RCF) for West Asia, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and represented by National Center for Wildlife (NCW), organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The forum was attended by Dr. Hossam Shawky, president of Desert Research Center, and Dr. Mohamed Yehya Draz, Professor of Sand Dunes, representing DRC. The forum aims to enhance regional cooperation by providing a platform for members of the Union that allows them to communicate to discuss common issues and exchange views and experiences

President of DRC stated that Egypt faces huge challenges due to population growth, scarcity of water resources, climate change which affects the quality and quantity of water resources, the increase in food gap, and high rates of unemployment and poverty. Therefore, the DRC 2030 development strategy focuses on enhancing scientific and technological aspects in the field of desert development

Dr. Hosam Shawky explained that the development of natural pastures is one of the priorities of the sustainable development strategy (Egypt Vision 2030), which aims to increase the Egyptian inhabited area to about 20% by 2030
