Healthy Ecosystems for Rangeland Development (HERD)
The project aimed at promoting of rangeland rehabilitation and sustainable management operations in Egypt and Jordan, by providing ecosystem services and biodiversity protection.
The project is financed by the GEF and implemented by IUCN, DRC, and CEDARE. The project objectives were achieved through four components. These components include more than 40 activities. In this context, the following are the main project’s success stories:
- Establishment of the revolving fund to support the rangeland communities.
- Formulation of first Egyptian low for the rangeland use.
- Establishment of 14 demonstration farms.
- Trained 100 beneficiaries of the local communities.
- Design of the natural and rangeland data-base for research purposes and decision makers.
