Rain harvesting

DRC has been working for 25 years to develop and spread rain harvesting techniques in the Northwest Coast and North Sinai, to provide the water needed for the sustainable development of dry desert areas inhabited by Bedouin communities that need to store water for pasture development, agriculture, and daily uses.

DRC has worked in cooperation with a number of funding agencies on a group of different projects, with the aim of optimizing the use of rainwater and runoff. The activities of these projects tried to expand the use of rainwater harvesting technologies, increasing pastoral productivity in the areas that have been rehabilitated and qualifying local teams and residents to use rainwater harvesting technologies. The aim of these activities is to improve the vegetation and pastoral cover in harvest areas, to increase productivity of milk and meat, to increase farmers’ income and to make local inhabitants participate in the process of utilizing and benefiting from rainwater.
