Within the framework of the plan of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, to enhance sustainable agricultural development, Dr. Hosam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, met with Dr. Amal Dababsa, Regional Director of Climate Change Projects in Jordan, Dr. Mohamed Bayoumi, Director of Climate Change and Energy Programs, and Dr. Amani Nakhleh, Director of Energy and Environment Programs at the United Nations Development Program, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, Vice President of DRC for Projects and Research Stations, and Dr. Raafat Misak, Professor of Geology at DRC and Egypt’s representative in the Science and Technology Committee of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification(UNCCD), to discuss ways of cooperation
The meeting aims to discuss cooperation mechanisms in the Arab region to address land degradation, manage drought, mitigate the risks of sand and dust storms, manage water resources, and control the food security crisis
It is worth noting that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is a global development program affiliated with the United Nations, operating in more than 170 countries, supporting change, communication between countries to exchange knowledge, expertise and resources, and building resilience for sustainable development outcomes
The attendees agreed on the need to re-evaluate natural resources, and the importance of capacity building and enhancing environmental awareness
