Within the framework of the initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to pay attention to increase agricultural exports, and a special attention to industries related to dates, Desert Research Center participates in the third forum for Egyptian dates in the New Valley. It was held from October 14 to 15 in New Valley Governorate, in presence of the governors of Aswan, Menoufia, North Sinai, and Matrouh
During the forum, Desert Research Center presented much of important applied research carried out by its researchers, that aims to increase date production and ensure preservation of it by biological control of palm pests
It is worth noting that dates are considered a strategic crop in Egypt. As Egypt ranks first in the world with a total of 18% of global date production, and first in the Arab world with a total of 24%. Palm trees are also the main source of income for thousands of farmers in New Valley Governorate
