Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, inspected the project establishing an experimental research station for seawater desalination in “El-Ameed” area, along Wadi El-Natrun axis, in El-Alamein City. This project is part of a series of initiatives, implemented by Desert Research Center, in cooperation with the Agricultural Research Center, across various regions of the Republic, within the framework of national projects for horizontal agricultural expansion
Hosam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, indicated that parallel studies are being conducted to assess land suitability for agriculture, plan agricultural exploitation, determine suitable crop patterns for the area, and calculate required water quantities, in preparation for including these lands in the agricultural plan in southern Egypt
The Minister of Agriculture affirmed that the success of this experiment opens new horizons for agricultural investment in this promising region and creates fresh opportunities for agricultural projects in El-Alamein, thus contributing to transforming parts of the area into modern agricultural production hubs, that rely on cutting-edge technologies in irrigation and water-saving agriculture, utilizing desalinated seawater.
