Desert Research Center Discusses Implementing Smart Agricultural Technology Following Researchers’ Training in China

Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center (DRC), met with researchers who participated in an international training program on dryland agricultural technology in China. The meeting, also attended by Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, the Center’s Vice President for Projects and Supervisor of Research Stations, focused on the outcomes of the training and how to leverage modern technologies to support smart agriculture and advance agricultural practices.

During the meeting, Dr. Iman El-Sherif, a researcher in DRC’s Economic and Social Studies Division, delivered a presentation on behalf of the participating group. She introduced the “CropSense” device—a tool specialized in spectral analysis and crop health monitoring—explaining its functionality, capabilities, and potential applications in supporting research, agricultural extension, and development initiatives in desert regions.

The device was developed by the National Engineering Research Center for Information Technology in Agriculture (NERCITA) in China and was brought back by the researchers following their participation in the training program, which took place from September 9 to September 29, 2024.
