Agriculture continues development efforts in Matrouh and border areas… Matrouh Governor and Desert Research Center Head inspect Sustainable Development Center activities

Major General Khaled Shaib, Governor of Matrouh, and Dr. Hossam Shawky, Head of the Desert Research Center, on behalf of Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, inspected the activities of the Sustainable Development Center for Matrouh’s resources. As part of an ambitious plan, 280 out of 480 “Barqi” rams have been distributed to breeders to improve livestock breeds and preserve the genetic excellence of the Barqi sheep, famous in the governorate. In addition, part of 50,000 olive seedlings was distributed to support farmers and breeders.

The center acts as a developmental arm of the state to enhance food security and improve the lives of citizens in border areas, through harvesting nearly 1 million cubic meters of rainwater, reclaiming 70 km of valley beds, planting 500,000 seedlings across 5,000 feddans, cultivating 2,810 feddans of fodder crops, protecting 25,000 feddans of natural pastures, constructing 2,700 wells with 1,000 additional wells underway, building 75 km of roads, distributing goats to 824 women, training over 1,500 women, constructing 400 pigeon towers, building two schools, rehabilitating 50 homes, and constructing 800 sanitary units to improve living standards.

Additionally, 2,000 food boxes were distributed to vulnerable families in Matrouh. The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, under the supervision of Minister Alaa Farouk and in the presence of Major General Khaled Shaib, launched the initiative ahead of Ramadan, with Dr. Hossam Shawky representing the Minister.

The Ministry confirmed its continued support for farmers and breeders, providing technical guidance and logistical support through the Desert Research Center, as part of efforts to strengthen social solidarity and improve the quality of life for Matrouh residents.
