Desert Research Center intensifies efforts to survey and classify Toshka lands to support agricultural expansion

Desert Research Center has intensified its efforts to survey and classify the lands of Toshka, following directives from Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mr. Alaa Farouk and in cooperation with the “Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development” authority. The initiative aims to maximize the use of Toshka spillway waters for agricultural expansion in areas surrounding the lakes
This move comes as part of the Ministry’s plan to conduct comprehensive soil studies, under the supervision of Dr. Hosam Shawky, President of DRC, and led by Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, Vice President for Projects and Research Stations. The studies aim to explore about 320,000 feddans south of Paris Oasis
The research seeks to assess the suitability of desert lands for cultivation, identify the most appropriate agricultural practices and crop patterns, and integrate these lands into South Egypt’s reclamation projects, thereby maximizing the utilization of Toshka Lakes’ water resources to advance horizontal agricultural expansion
