Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers Reviews Agricultural Experiments at Desert Research Center Stations in Sinai

As part of the official visit of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Desert Research Center hosted the delegation on a field tour of North and South Sinai governorates. The tour aimed to showcase Egypt’s pioneering experiments in desert agriculture and sustainable development. The delegation was accompanied by Dr. Hosam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center

Shawky emphasized that the visit represents a crucial step towards opening channels of technical and scientific cooperation with friend nations and enhancing the exchange of expertise in land reclamation and agricultural development in desert regions

The tour commenced with a visit to Ras Sudr Research Station in South Sinai, where the delegation reviewed a series of experiments in various types of desert agriculture. The delegation also visited the Plant Gene Bank for Genetic Resources, one of the center’s newest projects dedicated to preserving and maintaining the genetic resources of desert plants

Additionally, the delegation inspected the floating desalination plant implemented by DRC at Ras Sudr Research Station. They were further briefed on non-traditional crops such as moringa and quinoa, alongside experiments utilizing bio-fertilizers, organic fertilizers, and nano-fertilizers in wheat and field crop production

In North Sinai, at Al-Nathila, the delegation met with farmers from local agricultural communities who presented samples of cultivated crops

The delegation expressed admiration for Egypt’s expertise in establishing integrated agricultural communities aimed at achieving social stability and sustainable development. They also commended the scientific and technological advancements made by Desert Research Center in water scarcity challenges in desert areas
