Dr. Hossam Shawki, President of the Desert Research Center, received Dr. Zihua Jiang, Professor at Washington State University, to discuss prospects for joint cooperation in the fields of animal breeding and molecular genetics. The meeting was held within the framework of scientific exchange between Egypt and the United States through the Fulbright Program.
The visit included a tour of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at the Center, where its research capabilities and ongoing studies on local sheep and goat breeds were reviewed. Discussions also covered the implementation of advanced genomic survey studies and the development of genetic maps to support livestock genetic improvement programs, particularly in desert environments, thereby enhancing opportunities for international research cooperation in the coming period.
