Desert Research Center participated in the international training program “Modern Technologies for Combating Desertification and Ecological Agriculture” at Shihezi University in the Xinjiang region of northwestern China, alongside researchers from Egypt, China, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.
Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, stated that the participation aimed to leverage advanced technologies to combat desertification and adapt to climate change.
The program featured specialized lectures, workshops, and field visits to explore techniques for combating desertification, modern irrigation, and photovoltaic agriculture, as well as models for transforming desert areas into agriculturally productive environments.
At the conclusion of the program, the Desert Research Center delegation received certificates of completion. Notably, the program’s conclusion coincides with Egypt’s preparations to host the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP18) in 2028.
