H.E. Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Desert Research Center (DRC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, represented by the South China Botanical Garden and the Sino-Africa Joint Research Center. The agreement aims to strengthen research collaboration and exchange expertise in the fields of sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation
The protocol was signed by Dr. Hosam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, in the presence of high-level representatives from both sides. It includes joint training programs for African professionals, scientific exchange visits, and the organization of workshops and applied research projects, supported by joint funding
Additionally, an African Regional Office of the Sino-Africa Joint Research Center was inaugurated at DRC headquarters in Cairo, to serve as a platform for multilateral scientific cooperation between China, Egypt, and African countries
Minister Farouk emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement in transferring advanced Chinese agricultural technologies to Egypt, particularly in areas such as natural resource management, remote sensing applications, and climate change adaptation. He also highlighted how this partnership enhances Egypt’s regional role in promoting agricultural development and food security across Africa
