Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, witnessed the signing of two joint development projects between Desert Research Center and the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD). These projects aim to support the Arab food security system, ensure the sustainability of natural resources, and address climate change.
The first project focuses on providing the necessary water for sustainable agricultural development on the northwestern coast of Egypt by managing the aquifer and protecting it from seawater intrusion.
The second project focuses on expanding mangrove cultivation along the Red Sea coast, given the role these plants play in protecting beaches from erosion and preserving biodiversity.
Shawky emphasized the importance of these projects, as the coastal aquifer protection project on the northwest coast will contribute to securing sustainable fresh water sources for farmers, while the mangrove project represents a pioneering step towards promoting the blue economy and protecting the ecosystems in the Red Sea Governorate.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation held a meeting with the Director General of ACSAD, Dr. Nasr El-Din El-Obeid, to discuss the development projects planned for implementation in Egypt during the coming period to support the agricultural sector.
