Under the auspices of the Prime Minister, Dr. Hosam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, inaugurated the Egypt International Dates Forum on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Mr. Alaa Farouk, which is organized by the International Exhibitions and Conferences Team at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in the Fifth Settlement, Cairo, with the participation of major Arab date-producing countries and a group of Egyptian date exporting companies and factories
This comes within the efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture to develop the palm and dates sector, enhancing its strategic importance to the Egyptian economy and food security, given that it is one of the crops capable of adapting to climate change and environmental challenges
The forum is an opportunity to showcase new products, the latest manufacturing technologies, and various types of dates, making it a platform for exchanging experiences, as well as an opportunity to open new markets for Egyptian dates, especially in Europe and Asia, which enhances the value of national exports
Shawky pointed out that Egypt has the largest palm farm in the world, in the Toshka region, with an area of 38 thousand acres, and produces more than 44 varieties of dates, and that this number registered Egypt’s name in the Guinness Book of World Records in May 2023
Shawky stressed that the biggest challenge that Egypt seeks to achieve is increasing its share in global markets, noting that improving the quality of production, applying modern technologies in agriculture and storage, in addition to developing effective marketing strategies, will contribute to transforming Egyptian date production into an international competitive advantage.
