As part of the assignments of Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, to develop Sinai, Dr. Hosam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, conducted an extensive inspection tour of South Sinai Governorate, which included Ras Sedr Research Station and Eltour City
During the visit, Shawky inspected the development work underway at Ras Sedr Research Station, which includes establishing a new gene bank to preserve and maintain the genetic resources of desert plants, in addition to following up on research experiments in the field of water desalination and animal and poultry production
He also inspected the work of the research teams in Eltour City, which works to limit and classify the soil to determine the best agricultural uses for the land
Shawky stressed the importance of agricultural service centers in Sinai, which contribute to provide technical and advisory support to farmers, and provide agricultural supplies at reasonable prices. He pointed out that DRC is working to develop these centers to be the nucleus for sustainable agricultural development in the region
He also said that DRC pays great attention to the development of Sinai, and provides all the capabilities and expertise to support agricultural development efforts in this vital region
