Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, met with representatives from ministries, institutions, state agencies, and civil society organizations that participating in the consultative meeting to discuss the national plan to combat desertification (2024-2030), prepared by DRC.
The national action plan aims to reduce desertification and land degradation, mitigate the effects of drought in affected areas to obtain lands free of degradation, which is compatible with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification 2018-2030 and the United Nations Plan for Sustainable Development 2030.
The meeting recommended forming a small team to prepare a conference to arrange funding sources for applied projects that combat desertification. The team consists of representatives of DRC, the Ministry of International Cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Environment, and civil society organizations. The Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Investment and Finance were also invited as key partners in This conference.
