Desert Research Center Supporting Farmers of Al-Nawafaa Community in North Sinai with Field Visit

Desert Research Center conducted a field visit to Al-Nawafaa community in North Sinai as part of “Ask and Consult” initiative. This initiative aims to enhance direct communication with farmers and transfer scientific and practical expertise to them, contributing to agricultural development and achieving optimal productivity.

The visit was part of ongoing field monitoring of the impact of the recent floods in the region. It also followed directives from Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, emphasizing the need to intensify field presence and provide technical and advisory support to farmers in affected areas. The visit also focused on monitoring the impact of climate change and floods on crops and working to mitigate their effects.

The visit included field tours of olive groves to assess the overall condition of the crops and identify the challenges facing farmers on the ground. These challenges included soil salinity and its impact on tree growth and productivity, as well as evaluating the impact of the recent floods on agricultural lands.

DRC’s experts provided a number of technical recommendations and guidelines for dealing with salinity and improving soil properties, in addition to raising farmers’ awareness of best agricultural practices related to irrigation, fertilization and agricultural service programs appropriate to the region.
