In order to achieve sustainable development and provide citizens’ needs for drinking and agricultural water in desert regions, Desert Research Center(DRC) is continuing to construct reservoirs and cisterns in Al-Najila area in Matrouh, as part of an extensive plan to improve water infrastructure to support Bedouin communities.
Engineer Mahmoud Al-Amir, Director of Sustainable Development Center for Matrouh Resources (SDCMR), affiliated with DRC, explained that a water reservoir with a capacity of 100 cubic meters has been constructed, alongside a drinking cistern with a capacity of 120 cubic meters in Al-Najila, in addition to more than 450 reservoirs and cisterns, as well as a number of wells, across various governorates of Matrouh.
This project aims to ensure a safe and sustainable source of drinking and irrigation water, especially in areas suffering from water scarcity.
The residents have expressed their happiness with the implementation of these vital projects, as they represent a qualitative leap in their daily lives and help alleviate their hardship in obtaining water. This supports population stability and provides a suitable environment for agricultural and livestock development, aligning with the state’s orientations toward desert development and achieving water security for citizens.
