The Egyptian delegation continued its active participation in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), through scientific events and by strengthening Arab, African, and international cooperation in combating desertification.
In a move reflecting Egypt’s growing role, Egypt was nominated to represent the African Group on the Committee on Science and Technology (CST), affiliated to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, succeeding the current coordinator. Egypt will assume the coordination responsibilities following the conclusion of the 17th session.
It is worth noting that Dr. Mohamed Youssef, representative of the Observatory of Sahara and Sahel (OSS), held a preparatory meeting with Dr. Ingrid Teich, a researcher at the Center for Development and Environment (CDE) at the University of Bern in Switzerland, on the sidelines of the conference, to discuss a joint project with Desert Research Center in the field of remote sensing and mapping to address land degradation.
