Uzbek Government Delegation Visits Desert Research Center

Desert Research Center (DRC) received a delegation from Uzbekistan today. Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of DRC, Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, Vice President for Projects and Supervisor of Research Stations and other center experts met with the delegation to explore opportunities for agricultural and scientific cooperation. The discussion focused on leveraging Egyptian expertise in land reclamation, water resource management, and livestock development.

The two sides discussed methods for reclaiming and rehabilitating saline lands in Uzbekistan, as well as land surveying, classification, and the assessment of land and water resources, steps essential for restoring the land and making it productive.

The Uzbek delegation outlined the challenges facing their country, such as climate change and soil salinity, and highlighted their interest in developing natural pastures, livestock, and fodder production.

Discussions included the possibility of developing a model tailored to Uzbekistan, that aligns with the country’s specific challenges and resources. An agreement was also reached to draft a joint cooperation protocol between the two parties in the near future.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled to discuss topics related to land studies and reclamation, irrigation network expansion, and modern farming techniques, enabling the Uzbek side to benefit from Egyptian expertise in land reclamation.
