Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center (DRC), and Dr. Nagwa Abd el-Khalek, Senior Manager and Head of the Scientific Research and Innovation Sector at Misr El-Kheir Foundation, have signed two agreements to implement research projects focused on developing innovative solutions for wastewater treatment and reuse.
The first agreement is about the Local Manufacturing of a Wastewater Treatment Unit project, which aims to scale up the production of wastewater treatment units. This project is led by Dr. Abd El-Hamid Mostafa Al-Aasar, Professor of Water Chemistry and Desalination at DRC.
The second agreement is a project about Maximizing the Utilization of Treated Wastewater and Olive Mill By-products to Support Sustainable Expansion of Biofuel Shrub Cultivation and Improve Livelihoods in Sinai, implemented at DRC’s Research Station at Ras Sedr.
The project aims to utilize treated wastewater, olive mill waste, and natural mineral resources to produce eco-friendly, low-cost fertilizer alternatives. It is led by Dr. Moharram Fouad Attia, Professor of Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition and Head of Soil Fertility Unit.
