President of Desert Research Center Inspects Activities at Sustainable Development Center for South Sinai Resources

Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, and Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, Vice President for Projects and Supervisor of Research Stations, inspected the South Sinai Resource Sustainable Development Center.

The visit took place during their trip to Ras Sedr. They inspected several activities, including sunflower cultivation, jojoba seedlings, and livestock and poultry production.

This visit follows the Desert Research Center’s announcement of positive results from a trial cultivating “oil-seed sunflowers” using saline well water; the crop’s successful tolerance of salinity stress represents a significant step toward expanding agricultural investment in the governorate.

Dr. Hossam Shawky stated that this success aligns with the directives of Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and supports the Ministry’s strategy to expand the cultivation of strategic and oil-seed crops. This initiative aims to reduce the import gap for edible oils and maximize the utilization of non-conventional water resources, as well as desert and marginal lands, in border governorates.
