Desert Research Center Discusses Agricultural Investment Support with the Chamber of Development and Reclamation of Desert Lands

Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center (DRC), received members of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Development and Reclamation of Desert Lands—part of the Federation of Egyptian Industries—led by Dr. Amr El-Hefny, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The meeting, which also included representatives from companies and investment entities affiliated with the Chamber, aimed to explore ways to support agricultural investment in desert regions.

The meeting sought to address challenges facing agricultural investment and land reclamation projects, as well as to identify appropriate scientific and technical solutions.

Discussions focused on mechanisms to leverage DRC’s research and practical expertise in soil and water treatment.

An agreement was reached to task DRC with developing water requirement schedules for various crops in Central Egypt and providing the Chamber with a varietal map for olives. Additionally, coordination will take place between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and the “Mostaqbal Misr” (Future of Egypt) company to designate olive cultivation zones in Sinai—part of efforts to boost Egyptian olive exports—along with a planned visit to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to continue these discussions.
