Under instructions of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, to enhance the exchange of technical expertise and develop innovative solutions to meet the challenges of sustainable development, Dr Hosam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, received Mr. Iñaki Zurutuza, Manager Desalination & Water Reuse EMEA, HACH, to discuss cooperation and exchange knowledge in the field of water desalination

Iñaki invited Shawky to visit Spain to learn about irrigation and agriculture methods, as it is a good example in Europe, especially since it suffers from water scarcity and an abundance of sand, and Shawky welcomed the invitation
Shawky pointed out that DRC has great expertise in the field of water desalination, and Egypt Desalination Research Center of excellence- EDRC, affiliated with DRC, is considered one of the most important centers of expertise in the Middle East in water desalination technologies
The visit also included a tour of the DRC’s central laboratory and Egypt Desalination Research Center of excellence- EDRC, where DRC capabilities were presented in terms of accurate analysis of groundwater and the devices used to desalinate seawater and groundwater
