Desert Research Center and CEDARE Sign Joint Cooperation Agreement to Combat Desertification

Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, and Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Executive Director of Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE), signed a joint cooperation agreement. The agreement includes plans for joint projects and programs between the two parties on several issues, such as combating drought, reducing the risks of sand and dust storms, restoring soil fertility, and addressing a number of environmental issues of mutual interest. This will support national and regional efforts to combat desertification and ensure the sustainable management of natural resources.

President of DRC explained that the joint cooperation agreement also includes plans for training programs, workshops and seminars, organizing conferences and scientific events, publishing specialized information and publications, and utilizing the regional and international networks of both parties to expand the scope of cooperation and maximize the impact of joint initiatives.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the CEDARE delegation toured the central laboratories and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) unit at DRC to learn about the center’s research capabilities and advanced technologies.
