1-In the area of scientific research and institutional accreditation:
The Water and Soil Analysis Unit in Desert research center received international accreditation for four new tests, while the accreditation of the Egypt Desalination Research Center of excellence (EDRC) and the Land Conservation Laboratory was renewed, bringing the total number of internationally accredited tests to 17.
2-In the area of international and regional cooperation:
- Signing a joint cooperation agreement with CEDARE to combat desertification and restore soil fertility.
- Cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in the areas of biodiversity, natural resources, and climate change.
- Participation in the 24th meeting of the Arab Group on the Conventions to Combat Desertification and Biodiversity at the League of Arab States, and the election of Dr. Ahmed Abd el-Aty as head of the Arab Group.
3- In the area of sustainable development and natural resource management:
The Center participated in a workshop on the project to promote sustainable rangeland management in the Northwest Coast, which addressed rangeland rehabilitation and support for natural resources and local communities.
4- In the area of agricultural extension and field development:
The DRC Station in Sheikh Zuweid conducted extension visits to olive farms as part of the Sinai Organic Agriculture Program, training farmers on the use of bio-inoculations.
5- In the area of scientific culture:
- The tenth phase of the “Children’s University” program was launched in cooperation with the Academy of Scientific Research, with the participation of 50 children, to develop research and creativity skills and raise awareness of environmental issues and sustainable development.
- The summer training for students from scientific and agricultural colleges and institutes began at DRC Station in Sheikh Zuweid in cooperation with El-Arish University.
6- In the area of social responsibility:
The South Sinai Research Station hosted children with disabilities for an interactive day that included educational and recreational activities and scientific experiments, supporting social inclusion and skills development.
Desert Research Center continues its efforts in developing scientific research, strengthening partnerships, and providing technical and community support to achieve the goals of sustainable agricultural development and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
