Desert Research Center Revitalizes Agriculture at Moses the Prophet’s Monastery, Sinai

Acting on a directive from Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Desert Research Center (DRC) has initiated measures to revitalize agricultural activities at Moses the Prophet’s Monastery in Ras Sedr, South Sinai. These crops had been adversely affected by high salinity levels in the well water.

A delegation from DRC conducted a field visit to the monastery to assess the current situation and devise appropriate technical solutions. The delegation was led by Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of Desert Research Center, accompanied by Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, the Center’s Vice President for Projects and Supervisor of Research Stations, along with several professors and researchers specializing in water resources.

During the visit, irrigation water was analyzed, and technical recommendations and programs were formulated to improve water quality and enhance usage efficiency.

The team also inspected existing crops and water sources, assessed the site to determine the feasibility of establishing a solar-powered water desalination plant, and identified suitable locations for drilling new wells.
